Request for Sponsor

Hello Debian Developers,

I have a package I'd like to be considered for inclusion in Debian and
for that, as I understand it, I need a sponsor. ... Which I guess makes
Debian packaging similar to joining AA. (?)

My package is called Bftpd and it's a light FTP server, licensed under
the GPL version 2. I realize FTP servers are generally a dime a dozen,
but I feel Bftpd brings a few things to the table that others may not.
For one, it's extremely easy to install and use. Most home users can
simply install the package and begin serving up files without any
configuration. It also strives to be secure out of the box (as secure as
FTP can be). Last, but not least, it's self-contained. By that, I mean
it doesn't require any programs to be installed in its chroot
environment. It can list directories and such without external
assistance.

For the past several years Bftpd has gone through a number of security
audits and is occasionally used by university students to test or
calibrate their auditing software. It's a mature project (about ten
years old now) and stable, though still adding new features.

Copies of my Debianised bftpd package files can be found at

This is my first attempt to build a Debian package, so I am open to
advice, suggestions and general textual abuse.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Jesse Smith
