the executable installed has permissions set to +x but the package doesn't
has that +x permission

when i do ls -l on debian/input/usr/bin/panel
-rwxr-xr-x  1 varun varun 76K Nov  7 19:40 debian/input/usr/bin/panel*

but dpkg --contents shows 
-rw-r--r-- root/root     76904 2007-11-07 19:40:30 ./usr/bin/panel
