Install Problems

I have installed Debian 2.0 on my Packard Bell 386 (4MB RAM, 124MB
harddrive). Everything seems to have gone well, but when I boot the
system it doesn't prompt me for a super-user password and I get the
following error:

 "bash: fork: cannot allocate memory"

Does anyone have any knowledge for me?
Thanks,
Kevin
