Re: Several patches of dicompyler in Debian

Hello Andreas,

Thank you and the team for the hard work to enable dicompyler to work with wxWidgets 3.0 and the upgraded libraries. Quite a few these patches can be backported to dicompyler.

There are significant changes that need to be made to some modules in dicompyler to support pydicom 0.9.8 which I have not had time to work on, thus the restriction to pydicom 0.9.6 or 0.9.5. I will try to take a look at this soon so all users can benefit from the upgrade to the latest version of pydicom.

Hi Aditya,

since Debian is migrating from WX 2.8 to 3.0 we needed some patches to
be able to build and run dicompyler.  When doing the porting we also
enabled higher versions of matplotlib and we also adapted to the Debian
packaged library pillow instead of pil.  Finally I simply assumed that
the Debian packaged version of pydicom will work with dicompiler and I
hope that the restriction you have put into setup.py is not strictly
needed.  If the latter would be the case we would really welcome if you
could adapt dicompyler to the latest upstream version of pydicom.

You can find all patches we applied in Debian including comments here:

(you can also checkout via

  svn checkout svn://anonscm.debian.org/debian-med/trunk/packages/dicompyler/trunk/debian/patches )

Kind regards
