I'm not sure whether I understand your response correctly.  For the
moment we have an initial package.  Using this initial package it should
be possible to build other (different) versions of GT.M.  I do not see a
reason for using alternatives in the initial bootstraping.  Moreover I
would consider it reasonable to finalise the packaging for one target
version first to keep thinks simple for Luis.  Once this is done, tested
and stabilised and it turns out (yes, I know there was previous
discussion about this) that other versions are needed, adding
alternatives is easy.   However, I see no point in spoiling Luis with
more and more technical stuff in the first place.  Please be more
verbose if I'm wrong here and I might missinterpreted previous
discussion.
