Re: Our goals for Lenny

For all of them there is also a .menu file. Since the information
content of the .desktop files is higher than .menu files, we can
consider augenerating the .menu files from them.

Right. But I'd consider the generation of a menu file from a desktop
file a basic task for a debhelper tool or something like that and not
as a task for Debian-Med. In my eyes it would make the same sense
like listing "switching to gcc 4.3" as a Debian-Med goal.

The Debian KDE team already does this conversion and have a script for
this.

So I would start filing this script as a bug report against debhelper.

In their case, the .desktop files come from upstream, but it could
become the case for us as well: I hope that we can push a few of our
.desktop files upstream.

OK, this might be a reasonable goal: Make upstream accept all our
enhancements like desktop files, manpages etc.

In summary, the benefit for us would be to factorize the information of
20 files into 10 files. I admit that it will not change things so much,
but well, this is brainstorming ;)

Sure it's brain storming and so I would vote against this item on our
release goal list even if I agree with you that I'm in favour of making
it happen.

Kind regards

        Andreas.
