the reason why MATE 1.28 in Debian hasn't landed, yet, is (a) an ENOTIME issue on my end and (b) some API change in mate-settings-daemon [1] which has not been addressed by upstream, yet.

That said, if there is any DBus expert out there with time available, please help and chime in on [1].
