Issues with 1.7.0-1 (Debian 12)

Hello!

I've already written about my issue in a Debian forum.

https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=160776

Eventually, ChatGPT gave me a prompt for an action that turned out to be a workaround: at least I could eventually see the desktop elements translated in Italian! The workaround was creating a .xsessionrc in the home of the user containing the following lines.

export LANG="it_IT.UTF-8"
export LANGUAGE="it_IT:it"

I've just tried logging in with the console (no X environment): LANG is empty and LANGUAGE is en_US:en.

Isn't MATE User Manager responsible for what is not happening?

In a virtual machine I could try with the latest LTS version of Ubuntu Mate: there I can successfully see an Italian desktop if Italian is the language selected for the user, and I'm also asked if I want the names of some directories to be translated in their corresponding Italian names (this does not occurs in Debian with the workaround described above); please have a look at the attached image. There the version of MATE User Manager is 1.7.0-1build3, but I had look at the changelog: if I got it correctly, somebody started from version 1.7.0-1 of Debian (unstable at the time), and nothing was made but a couple of builds (please have a look at the text file attached).

Besides I noticed that if I change the profile icon and then I lock the screen I then however get the default icon (with the Debian logo) if I lock the screen. This occurs also with Ubuntu Mate, though.

Thanks in advance!

Andrea
