Many packages break when you have no or empty password.

I reported bugs against them but the maintainers do not see fixing
this as a priority so the packages are still broken.

Most of said packages are security related so getting a change in
authentication reviewed either for Debian or upstream is going to be
difficult.

But you can always try.

When those issues are resolved we can reconsider the default setting
and rest assured that the live system still works.
