I don't know what custom persistence is, but for all I can imagine it
does not seem like the right tool for the problem I reported. And I
don't think this is just whishlist, but a real problem that makes the
current Debian Live at least very hard to use if you move the image
between a machine that is only supported by nvidia or fglrx and one that
needs the free xorg drivers.

To be honest I rather think the severity could also be set higher and
that it would be at least nice to fix this for wheezy or in a wheezy
backport.
