Could you attach the entire build log and provide your config/
directory somewhere? See [0] for details/rationale.

In the meantime, I would guess that you have some strange repo config,
or that somehow you are somehow building amd64 (which doesn't have
linux-image-2.6-686) dispite specifying i386. (Try starting in a totally
fresh directory and running those two commands?)
