Intel's drivers license
Hello,
recently I was contacted by an Intel employee, asking to provide support
for their new e1000 Gigabit Adapters in Debian Linux. Implementation is
not a problem since I do already maintain some kernel-modules packages
and kernel-patch-ethernet-drivers package. But the license is a bit
vague (see attachment). If I interpret all this lawyer-language
correctly, following things are problematic:
- they are talking about patents without beeing precise - this may lead
to GPL violations
- they make a strange sounding statement about permitted combinations
with GPL, restricted to usage under GPL only - it looks like the old
KDE licensing trouble
What is your opinion?
Gruss/Regards,
Eduard.
