[Fwd: Re: font licensing]

Hello.

I've contacted a number of font authors about licensing their truetype
fonts under free licenses and a number of them have responded
positively.

I've been asking authors who are willing, to look at the gpl, mit, and
artistic licenses and select the one they like the best. As I'm sure
will happen again, the individual in the letter below decided to write
his own license. He has a number of fonts that he's willing to
license, although most of them are decorative fonts.

Please review the license below and let me know if it meets the
dfsg. I think it does, but I'm unsure of this clause:

"3] A modified font can be included in any non-profit and for-profit
software package as long as it's done free of charge with the
rules above met. The person(s) who modified the font may not
profit from the modified font whatsoever."

thank you

  michael

Hi,

I have written up a font license. I've never done something like this before,
since font making is just a hobby for me, so I'm not sure if the license agreement I
made covers everything that should be covered. I've attached the text file to this
e-mail and just in case it doesn't send properly, I uploaded it here:
http://aenigma.cellosoft.com/other/aefontslicense.zip

To make my fonts I use Illustrator to create the characters and I use FontLab,
ScanFont and/or Fontographer to compile and tweak the fonts. The font programs
usually auto-hint the characters. All of my older fonts were auto-hinted but now I
usually release my newer fonts without hints or a few hints (the hints can sometimes
mess up the way the font is displayed on the screen).
