In theory ACPI was built to pass the power-management/temperature/... control to the OS, in order to give the user more options. The problem is many (if not all) manufacturers have buggy ACPI implementations.

I don't think this is related. ACPI loads, it just doesn't work as expected.
I can't help more than that. My suggestion would be to have a look at acpi.sourcefourge.net
If you're lucky you might find some fixes from other installation reports or so. Else you might have to go the DSDT way and recompile your kernel. May the force be with you... :)
