thanks Dave that fixed it, and i right clicked on panel after it to make panel smaller.

Right click on an empty spot on the panel you have, select new panel,
then move the new one where you want it, by right clicking on it and
messing with the properties thingy. Then you can add to that panel
the stuff you want in much the same manner. Even the workspace switcher.
