Based on input from Kfir Lavi and Ken Kasina, I've tried the following ... but it still does not work. I ran 'fdisk -l /dev/sda', which verified that the device is sda and formatted as FAT16. I created a directory /mnt/usb and ran 'mount /dev/sda /mnt/usb', which failed and asked that the filesystem type be specified.
