Re: AAAAARGH! radeon 7500M problems

thanks for the feedback arief#

I don't think it is a hardware bug in mine as everything works well under M$ XP for me. everything works ok on 2.4.24 & XF86 4.2.1.1 even dri works, slow framerate tho, only 400 odd fps. have heard of people gettin 1000+ using XF86 4.3 & dri package, but I haven't had any luck with 4.3

would you be interested in my kernel .config (2.4.24) & XF86 config?

happy to send them on if you want.

My IBM Thinkpad T30 also has the beast inside.

I kind of made it working once, but after a while it stuck and I have to
reboot the machine. A couple of re-menuconfig my kernel, I got lost, and
has not gain any success ever again. I've use X 4.3 from experimental, and 2.6 kernel. Once tried also in 2.4 with DRI patches.
I got console works with radeon framebuffer,
X work but no DRI. :-(

Anyone care to post kernel .config and X's XF86Config here?

I suspect at my laptop, it's an hardware bug,
WinXP has the same problem with graphic acceleration, too, it work for a
minute or two and suddenly a nice BSOD pop out and reboot the machine. I have to disable acceleration/radeon driver at XP, and use VESA. My
god, VESA in WinXP is sooooo slowwww... and you can not even play movie
with it.

Another part where Linux excels....

My dell inspiron 4150 has a radeon 7500M card in it. It's running debian
testing with kernel 2.4.24 and XFree86 4.2.1.1 and works relativly out
of the box (just had to add "1400x1050" to the Modes for 24 bit depth
iirc).

Afaik, X 4.3 is not in sid (unstable) or sarge (testing). I have the
M9 chipset and that's what was needed for me. Add a line to
sources.list to pull xfree from experimental, and you should be all
set.

Has anyone managed to get kernel 2.6.x work with X11 and radeon
7500 M ? If you have how on earth did you do it??!!

I've been trying since 2.6t3 and no luck yet. I am trying to stick
to debian testing (sarge?sid? i never know which one is which) to
do this, i.e. without installing a non debian X11.

I have done a fair bit of searching on the net and can't seem to
find anything radeon 7500 specific.

cheers,

Ben.
