kernel 2.6 won't even give a kernel panic

Since 2 Month I'm now running debian unstable on my toshiba satellite
1400-503, witout major problems so far.
But, to use the improved acpi festures of kernel 2.6 I installed it as
a second boot option. Now when I boot the 2.6 kernel using lilo, I get
"loading Linux 2.6 .................................................."
and then the screen goes black, and even if you wait for 15 minutes or
longer, nothing happens. I tried both the debian precompoiled kernel
and a self compiled one. For compiling I used kernel-source provided
by debian. When I choose to boot 2.4, everythings fine, but 2.6
doesn't even give an error message, it doesn' even get far enough to
tell about a kernel panic or whatever.
It'd be pretty cool if you could help me, thanks in advance,
florian
