Modem in T40 - stopped responding

hello,

I managed some month ago to get my modem in a IBM T40 running.
With the slmdm 2.7.10 kernel modules for SmartLink Soft Modems support and the
patch apllied it worked.

But now KPPP responded that it is unable to open the modem.

lspci -v showed up with

00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Modem (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [Generic])
        Subsystem: IBM: Unknown device 0524
        Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
        I/O ports at 2400 [size=256]
        I/O ports at 2000 [size=128]
        Capabilities: <available only to root>

(even when running kppp via gksu as root KPPP showed the same "modem does not
respond")

dmesg resonded with

DROPPED IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:08:00:69:0e:3f:f4:08:00
SRC=132.187.21.151 DST=132.187.21.255 LEN=296 TOS=0x10 PREC=0x00 TTL=60
ID=26877 PROTO=UDP SPT=525 DPT=525 LEN=276
DROPPED IN= OUT=eth0 SRC=132.187.21.42 DST=132.187.21.255 LEN=147 TOS=0x00
PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=0 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=631 DPT=631 LEN=127

(BTW what caused this output would interest me as well ;-) - I am on a uni-network
at the moment)

Any idea where the problem might lie. pleae let me know which output might be
interesting for analysing and I will post it immediately.
 thanks in advance Martin
