No echo for LCP-ConfigRequets after pap chap --> no route

Hello,
now I've got a modem card for my lap, and it seems to work, but still
something wickened prevents me to get an IP.

I've asked that on a redhat-ppp list, but got no answer :(
btw does anybody know how to access linux-ppp@vger.kernel.org ?
I only retain a failure because a 'mandatory Header 'message ID' is
missed'....use KMail here with standard setting.

Now on the laptop I dial into an ISP with standard pap / chap login
procedure and dynamic DNS.
But the same peers and ppp-options on my desktop works fine, but not the
laptop.

I found out the following:
On the laptop, I can dial and log in with minicom.
Also wvdial seems to proceed to login and establish a ppp-connection.
ppp's log-entries after 'pon' doesn't indicate it does login; however, it's
LPC-Config-Requests lack an appendet 'auth pap' that can be found in the
desktop-log, and there never were any EchoRequests.

In all cases there was no route and no ping possible after the ppp hast
started up. I suspect the ppp on the other side isn't starting also...
and i wonder if it's something specific to the modem card.
It's a gericom V.90 fax/modem pcmcia-card.
But the 'sound' seems ok...it's just not entering TCP/IP.
laptop-net and cardmgr are working well sofar.

Where do i have to look for ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I append two logs with 'XXX' markers to the interesting difference, also the
pap- and chap-script for one example peer.

TIA
