My Inspiron-BIOS has no such option, but I found a workaround:
- disable APM in your kernel
or
- when you don't want APM-Support for a session just add APM=off in your favorite boot-loader, which was lilo in my case.
this way brings a few disadvantages:
- no battery load available
- no switching between 2 batteries (on my Insprion 5000e)
