/ Norman Walsh <ndw@nwalsh.com> was heard to say:
| Anyway, I suspect that it has some bad RAM. Programs just sporadically
| crash on it (with a segfault, most often). Shell scripts, emacs,
| vncviewer, a browser, you name it, they all run sometimes and crash
| sometimes. Sometimes they crash right away, sometimes they run for a
| while.
|
| Bleh. Unreliable computers are really bad news.
|
| - Are there other possibilities?

After running memtest86 overnight, I think there must be yes. It
performed 18 passes without finding any errors.

If it was any single program or if it was at all consistent and
repeatable, I'd suspect a bad executable, but it's very random and
widespread.

Can anyone suggest next steps for debugging/fixing this?
