Assuming you have the latest pcsnd driver, you can just run the patch on the kernel (it may screw up some files if you don't have the exact right version for your kernel--it seemed to screw up my joystick module). Then, just using /usr/bin/play on an 8 bit .wav worked fine. Andrew.
