Have you tried to boot the system with the rescue floppy? So
at the "boot:" prompt type " rescue root=/dev/hda2 " ?

This way you know if your installation succeed. If it works
then there is something wrong with your bootfloppy. 

BTW, the message you get is unknown to me.
