Does this mean that usb controller won't work either?

So I can pretty much expect all sony vaio to share this problem
then?

The one I'm thinking about has onboard ethernet as well, but
that shouldn't cause any problems eh?

Sound is an issue, but it's relatively minor. I'm just having
a lot of trouble finding a reasonable laptop, and then finding
compatability information for GNU/Linux on the web.

I believe that the vaio also has a builtin modem too. Do you
know if I'll have any problems configuring that?

I really wouldn't mind waiting for sound compatibilty, or even
plugging away at it myself (the USB isn't that important either),
but I would definitly like to know if I can expect the modem
and ethernet to work properly.

I've never installed on a laptop before either.. Are there usually
any hitches during the installation process that need to be
gotten around as well?

Thanks
