I prefer to start X via "startx 1>xlog 2>&1", and then I look in xlog for any problems. If the simple WM works, then you know it's a Gnome problem. I had enough problems with Gnome that I switched to KDE, which is far superior, IMHO, and then to IceWM permanently, since I only use that fancy stuff to open xterms anyway. Mike -- Michael P.
