nefarious irq sharing

laptop debs,

i have a sony vaio pcg-v1xs (picturebook). sony
put the usb and bus controllers, and sound card
on irq 9.

the problem is that the sound card "loops" every
2 seconds, so it just plays the same 2 seconds
of sounds over and over again. this also locks
up the computer, which causes a "hard," (fsck)
boot. yuck! (btw, i use the yamaha oss sound
driver built into kernel 2.4.0.)

i've been to the local comp usa store to see other
vaio laptops. they have the same sharing of irq 9,
so my queries are about laptop sony vaio's in general:

1. does anyone running potato use a sony vaio
laptop that has sound working?

2. if so, is irq 9 being shared by usb/bus controllers,
and the sound card?

3. if so, how did you set it up?

ia, t.

bentley taylor.
