I've got a Satellite 2100CDS. You'll need to disable (32-Bit) CardBus
support in the BIOS. You can do that either in Windows (if you still
have it installed), or on bootup, when the "Toshiba" splash screen shows
up, hold down the <ESC> key, and it'll bring you to the BIOS setup
screen. I don't remember the name of the option, but it shouldn't be
too hard to find. The default is probably something like
"Auto-detect". Change it to "PCIC compatible" (or something like that -
the one that's not "Auto-detect" or "32-bit something-or-other"). (I
really should write down this information somewhere, for the next person
with this problem.) After that, all should be fine (except that you
won't have CardBus support - which in most cases should be fine).
