Lucent modem works under Linux, but I still prefer my cardmodem :-)
www.linmodems.org has a binary driver for the lucent modem. Try it.

What problem? I'm using this notebook with Win98 and Debian 2.2 without any
problems. Only Gnome on a 800x600 screen is a bit of a pain. Sorry, I
missed the first part of the thread.

Using Lilo is no problem.

That is true in the sense that hibernation doesn't work when you shrink the
partition. I read that others succeeded, but I never bothered myself to get
it done. Try http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ for
success stories.
I'm running about anything I want to run. If I want to boot Windows I
simply run Win4Lin. It's a nice notebook. I like it, especially with those
nice looking speakers.
Cheerio,
