Ethernet card intermittent problem (3com FE575CT on a TwinHead PowerSlim)

A TwinHead PowerSlim 600, running Debian 2.2, has a problem with its Ethernet
card, a 3com FE575CT. It works but, from time to time (after one hour or two)
the card is no longer usable: no IP packet comes out.

The log says:

Rebooting the machine cures it. Sometimes, /etc/init.d/pcmcia stop + start clears the problem, too.

Linux version 2.2.17
PCMCIA Card Services 3.1.8

The card is recognized:
