Committed to svn, thanks.

A minute for the commit, half an hour to get your name into the
changelog without mangling it. I hope that I finally got it right by
scp'ing the changelog to my local workstation and using a graphical
editor in UTF-8 mode. A pity that our console tools don't seem to be
up to the task of editing UTF-8 text files.

I think they are. I just tested on a system localized in Romanian with
UTF-8 locale. This is a fresh install (done a week ago). Vim can allow
UTF-8 input with CTRL+V u <code>. This works.

Do you have a UTF-8 locale set?

P.S.: I always found it frustrating that a fresh install generally
behaves better than an upgraded one.
