It does. Xev tell that this key sends keycode 21 and this is in the config:

% grep '= *21;' /usr/share/X11/xkb/keycodes/xfree86
    <AE12> =  21;
% sed -n '/xkb_symbols "basic"/,/^}/ {/AE12/p;}' /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de
    key <AE12>  { [dead_acute, dead_grave, dead_cedilla,  dead_ogonek ] };
