You don't need the blank lines. I may have explained myself poorly: I
don't think that the synopsis is tall, but it would be if the *VALID
COMBINATIONS* section would be included there, which doesn't worth it
from my point of view (meaning: the manual page is fine as is).

Great, so the correct nip-ticking way to write it is:
*-i*, *--seed*[*=*]'NUMBER'::
But it clearly don't address your initial concern of “the equal sign
get[ting] too much attention”...
