I just tried source from alioth
http://debian-knoppix.alioth.debian.org/sources/cloop_2.06-2.tar.gz
It works fine with 2.6.21.6 kernel but not with 2.6.22* kernels. 
'Something has changed in 2.6.22 kernels.

This is how I check that cloop works without making a new live CD with it:
# mount -o loop Knoppix.iso  /mnt
# modprobe cloop
# losetup /dev/cloop0 /mnt/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX
# mount /dev/cloop0 /mnt
mount: block device /dev/cloop0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

# umount /mnt
# losetup -d /dev/cloop0
# umount /mnt

Cloop-2.06 processees fine also with 2.6.22 kernels but halts when 
testing it in the way I showed .
