/usr/sbin/mkpersistenthome on your copy of Knoppix.
It is a shell script with source included. ;-)
Now also at http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/sources/ as tarball.

I still don't understand why you would need the Mac address here.
On a non-wireless card wlcardconfig simply will tell you that there is
no wireless card installed.
