Bug#800316: RM: cramfs -- ROM; obsoleted by squashfs and initramfs

Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

I noticed that cramfs still exists in the archive and is listed as
maintained by the kernel team (probably because it was previously
maintained by Herbert Xu). It hasn't been updated since 2004.

cramfs is unmaintained upstream, and in the kernel is deprecated in
favour of squashfs. The description refers to use for the initrd, but
we've been using an initramfs instead since Linux 2.6.

Ben.
