Package: linux-base Version: 4.0 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, The kernel has renamed overlayfs to overlay: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=ef94b1864d1ed5be54376404bb23d22ed0481feb However, it expected distributions to keep the old name around, because userspace software might rely on it. And it definitely does. lxc, at version 1.0.7 in debian/unstable, relies on overlayfs for its lxc-clone facilities. At lxc 1.1.1, it has added support for the name "overlay". It means that right now, lxc-clone cannot be used on debian, since both packages don't support each other. Regards, Florian Margaine -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (800, 'unstable'), (700, 'stable'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 4.1.0-2-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -- debconf information excluded

[...] No, it allows distributions to carry the out-of-tree overlayfs as "overlayfs". But we never had overlayfs before this.
