From what you say below, it seems that it is blocking when the second
process closes the device, not when it opens the device.  It does look
like this driver is trying to clean up resources on close that may not
have been allocated to the file handle.  That may explain why it hangs,
but I'm not sure.

I'm forwarding this to the driver developers for them to look at.
Debian kernel version 2.6.32-9 is closely based on stable version
2.6.32.9.
