Bug#436019: linux-image-2.6.21-2-686: Suspend to disk problems with Thinkpad X40
Package: linux-image-2.6.21-2-686
Version: 2.6.21-6
Severity: normal
Hi there,
after updating from linux-image-2.6.28-4-686 to 2.6.21-2-686 in testing, my
laptop exhibits some weird behaviour when trying to suspend to disk:
First, suspending to disk after a fresh boot works fine.
Resuming from suspend is very slow and actually seems to stop at some point before the
whole image is restored. No X or console access is possible at this point.
It seems though that whenever a key is pressed, the resume processes advances a
step further. So by repeatedly pressing some keys, it is possible to get the
machine to fully resume.
After this, also suspend to ram (which worked flawlessly before) shows the
same problem. Sometimes it is not even possible to shut the system down
without repeatedly pressing keys.
No errors seem to be reported. If the system is not suspended to disk,
everything works alright, even suspend to ram.
The problem is also present with linux-image-2.6.22-1-686 from unstable.
Downgrading to 2.6.18-4-686 seems to solve it.
I am using the in-kernel swsusp mechanism with the hibernate script to
decrypt my swap partition prior to suspend.
This problem was also reported by others and with uswsusp on the debian-user mailing list.
The post can be found here: http://www.debianhelp.org/node/8751
If more information is needed, I will gladly provide it if possible.
Regards,
Soenke
