Bug#350375: installation-reports

problems.

But on rebooting the sk98lin module cannot be assigned to eth0 again! Is the
sk98lin module used by the installation process different from that one that
is finally placed in /lib/modules?

The only difference is that installer uses the generic kernel, which is guaranteed to work on any PC-compatible machine, but the one installed on disk is the one which suits your machine best, for example it can be a Pentium- or AMD-optimized version. Can you please post the output of the 'uname -a' command on the installed system and describe in detail what you mean by "cannot be assigned to eth0"?

Thanks,
