Kernel versions 2.6.15 do not have support for suspend and resume for
SATA devices, though I did not have problem doing RAM suspend with
2.6.12-10 on my toshiba satellite laptop with ICH6M SATA controller.
Dilemma is now 2.6.12 with RAM suspend or 2.6.15 with disk spindown
thanks to SMART control.

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problems_with_SATA_and_Linux describes the
problem, refers to http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/5/2/46 which provides a
patch also available at:
http://tpctl.sourceforge.net/tmp/sata_pm.2.6.15-rc6.patch

Said patch seems to have been included in 2.6.16-rc1 already.

Regards,
Thibaut

Hi,

I've verified that the patch you mention is included in 2.6.16 which is currently in unstable. The bug thus should be fixed and I'm closing this bug report.
