Bug#358017: ioctls fail with rtc on kernel 2.6

Package: kernel
Version: 2.6.8-2-686

Hello. I hope this is the right adress for this 'bug-report', if not i am sorry for the inconvenience.

On my debian system (3.0R1) the default-loaded RTC (/dev/rtc)-Driver is genrtc.ko, wich fails on ioctl-calls for periodic-interrupts (RTC_IRQP_SET) with 'invalid argument' on kernel 2.6.8-2-686. There are other calls wich fail also (RTC_PIE_ON for example). While update-IRQ (RTC_UIE_ON) for example works fine.

With the kernel-package 2.4.27-2-386 *all* ioctls worked fine.

After searching the net for hours i found out that the driver rtc.ko works for kernel 2.6.8-2-686.

I dont know if this is a bug, but i found many people on the net with similar problems with the 2.6 kernel, and no answer, though.

There are some time-critical (music)-applications wich use the rtc i know of. None of them lists the problem, even rtc.txt in the kernel-documentation lacks information. (Not to mention that the example-code in the rtc.txt breaks when encountering the periodic-irq-section).

Maybe this is a helpful hint, if not, throw it away. (But if one of you gurus could tell me *why* this happens, iŽd be rather lucky ;))

Anyway, many thanks for the great system :)

Greetings
