 No problem here.  What is the MD5 of your bz2?  Did you run debsums?
 What is your mirror?  Where did you redownload it from?

 I got:
 bee% bunzip2 -t kernel-source-2.6.9.tar.bz2 && echo success
 success
 bee% md5sum /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.9.tar.bz2
 bfceb045bc0bd03e5f7af6844364260e  /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.9.tar.bz2
