I don't think so since my kernel boots OK. The problems sems to be ACPI
related though. Attached is edited parts of a later posting to
debian-kernel and debian-devel:

Yes it does. A warning is issued though, device ... does not match PIRQ
mask, try pci=usepirqmask (not tried yet). Also pci=noacpi works. Now
IRQ 11 is allocated to the sound card Intel 82801CA-ICH3, shared with
other devices. IRQ7 is not tried to be allocated for alsa (it is used by
parport0). IRQ9 is allocated to ACPI.

(The battery monitor in gnome works perfectly when acpid was installed)
