Hi Horms,

Thank you very much for your quick and thorough reply!

If you apply SG_IO-safe-commands-[345].dpatch to
kernel-source-2.6.8-4, 5, 6 or 7 you should get the behaviour
that is currently in bitkeeper. If you ommit
G_IO-safe-commands-5.dpatch then you should get the 2.6.9
behaviour.

I have attached all the relevant patches. If somone who is experiencing
this problem could take some time to test it out I would be very
helpful.

I'm afraid that I can't easily test this: I only have room for one kernel nowadays in my root/boot partition (128MB, very annoying, because I have to tweak stuff to get a kernel upgrade by apt working! Where are the times that thsi was enough space to hold 3 kernels?). I'm running the Debian stock kernel 2.6.8.1 which is currently in testing. I don't have any experience in building my own kernel package.

So, if someone else could test this, I'd be very grateful :)
Or, alternatively, if someone could get me a .deb with this kernel (to replace my current), I could install it and report the results.

Anyway, thanks again. I feel bad that I can't test this to honour your efforts in helping me.
