Hey, On a friends computer I had the issue, that all plasma notifications were still playing audio and ignoring that notifications should be muted. It took a while to understand. The issue is that phonon vlc backend is not able to categorize the notifications as notifications, that's why the mute setting for notifications wasn't used. The solution is to use the gstreamer backend. So here my recipe to get a complete muted plasma desktop: root % apt install phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer root % apt remove phonon4qt5-backend-vlc # mute qt5 applications user $ kcmshell5 kcm_pulseaudio #applications->Notification Sounds #mute qt4 applications user $ kcmshell4 kcmnotify #Player Settings (No Audio output) relogin, relax and hear the silence :D Btw. notifications or different audio streams. If you have the issue, that sound gets sometimes too loud. This is a pulseaudio "feature". It makes sense to disable flat-volume: https://wiki.debian.org/ PulseAudio#Sound_level_is_low_or_suddenly_becomes_too_loud Best regards, sandro
