After re-running iceweasel under gdb under KDE I can no longer reproduce 
the problem.

It appears that the fix applied to qt5base-opensource-src 5.5.1+dfsg-8 
in relation to the bug: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-46323
has improved things.
