Uhm, I have seen this on my workstation at work, where I then used:

sleep 10 ; pm-hibernate

Ctrl-L (to lock desktop)

Wasn´t in work place in office since some weeks, so don´t know how it would be 
after update. Also sid here on this Workstation

Works well on my laptop. Dunno whats different.
