I had the same issue and already filed a bug report:

Also a patch is provided there, but I did not try it yet.

Hi devs,

I know you are really busy, but I'm just bumping this thread because Akregator has been unusable for a couple of weeks already and there is a patch to solve it. If one of you could take the time to apply it to debian's version we would really appreciate it.
