You will find that Debian 'Stable' distro provides for all of your needs
as a programmer & for using your equipment as a server. There will be
many choices to make regarding exactly which applications to use.
However, as there are many that accomplish the same things with each
having its own flavor for the user, you can try one & if it does not do
what you wish or you just don't like the feel of it, then toss it & try
another.
